Annual South Asia Media Summit 2008 held in Goa
“Globalisation / Commercialisation of Media in South Asia: Time for a Reality Check” Annual South Asia Media Summit – 2008 organised by the Media Information and Communication Centre of India (MICCI) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES-India) in collaboration with the International Centre Goa (ICG) concluded on 23th of Nov. 2008 at the Taj Holiday Village. The Summit was inaugurated by Hon. Mr. Pratapsingh Rane – President, ICG and Speaker, Goa Legislative Assembly on 21st of Nov. 2008. Renowned media person Gerson da Cunha, Mumbai delivered the Keynote Address to the Summit. Mr. Pratapsingh Rane also released the book Media and Public Interest in South Asia: Some Priority Areas on the occasion Ms. Nandini Sahai, Director, MICCI and Mr. Rajeshwar Dyal, Senior Media Advisor, FES-India spoke at the inaugural session. Mr. Collin Curry, Trustee, MICCI welcomed the participants while Mr. Arjun Halarnkar, Programme Manager, ICG proposed the vote of thanks.. Detail of the sessions : Session- I- Concentration of Media Industry/ Dominance of Capital in some sectors Session – II- Globalisation / Commercialisation of Media Industry and Possible Threat to Cultural Diversity Session III - Effect of Globalisation / Commercialisation on Public Broadcasting Session IV – Globalised Media and Terrorism: Impact of New Technologies Session V – Globalisation/ Commercialisation of Media and its Social Responsibility Recommendations and Future Course of Action: An Open Forum The deliberations of the Summit concluded in the form of a recommendation document which will be released soon.
